Burial Assessments

Over the past few years, we have undertaken burial assessments for a large number of submarine cable projects worldwide. We have been at the forefront of developing risk assessment techniques using the concept of the burial protection index.

SEtech review available geotechnical, geological and geophysical data to produce a ground model for the cable route. Using in-house databases, correlation models and experience we are able to relate the ground model to plough, jet tool and trencher performance.

Conventional burial assessments have a drawback in that they do not recognise that different soils provide different levels of protection, or that different threats require varying degrees of protection. Predictions can be improved by the use of a Burial Protection Index (BPI).
